The Retirement Plan Has to Include Preparation for Health and Lifestyle Changes The plan has to include how to prepare for the unexpected--or what we should call--the expected. The "expected" includes changes in lifestyle and changes in health. Those changes are imminent, and every retiree should know about, and expect, health and lifestyle changes. With the exception of a quick death, these two factors are going to have an impact on the retired person, and their plans, count on it. So, part of retirement preparation boils down to preparing financially for the "expected" changes in lifestyle and health.
We all know about the "Tooth Fairy." You put the tooth under your pillow and the next day some money appears, all for being such a brave child. But let's remember, it was Mom or Dad who really supplied the money, not the tooth fairy. According to the dozens of studies discussing retirement planning--or rather the lack of it--it would appear that most of America is going to be relying on the tooth fairy to solve their imminent retirement problems. Too bad. The fairy won't be drifting in through the window and supplying dollars for being brave. Here's the point. Rather than moving down the road twenty-five years from now, and saying "I wish I would have...", let's turn the clock back--from twenty-five years ahea--to now, the present. If you are presently considering retirement, or are even currently retired, NOW is the time to prepare for the coming changes of lifestyle and health. You can't afford to "take a chance" in these areas.
